With a unique background as both a competitive athlete and experienced physical therapist to professional sports teams, Dr. Bourdeau brings unparalleled expertise in treating overuse injuries, contact injuries, and post-operative rehabilitation.

Dr. Bourdeau was an elite athlete himself, competing in high-level soccer, golf, and rowing. This first-hand experience with the rigors of intense training and recovering from sports injuries gives him invaluable perspective when treating active patients. Dr. Bourdeau understands the toll, both mental and physical, that injuries can take, and helps his patients overcome them and return to peak performance as quickly as possible.

Dr. Bourdeau worked as a physical therapist and athletic trainer for the New England Patriots between 2002 and 2007, including traveling with the team to the 2002 Super Bowl championship, applying his skills to help rehabilitate elite players competing at the highest level. Dr. Bourdeau has also provided physical therapy and athletic training for numerous college programs such as Boston College, UMass, and Holy Cross.

He earned his Bachelor’s in Athletic Training from the prestigious Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University in Boston. Dr. Bourdeau then received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, one of the nation’s top PT programs.

Whether you are a high-level athlete recovering from an ACL tear, a weekend warrior dealing with overuse injuries, or facing a complex post-operative rehabilitation – Dr. Bourdeau has the skills to get you back to your desired level of activity. His unique combination of first-hand athletic experience and working with championship-winning sports franchises allows Dr. Bourdeau to create personalized treatment plans that maximize your recovery. From contact injuries to neurological conditions, trust the team at OFF-SEASON Sports & Physical Therapy to provide the highest caliber of care in North Andover and beyond.

As a competitive rower, Dr. Bourdeau understands the repetitive stress and overuse injuries that can occur whether you’re on the water or the erg. This includes issues like lower back pain, shoulder impingement, wrist tendinitis, and knee problems. His personal experience recovering from rowing-related injuries gives him insights into designing preventative techniques and rehabilitation plans for rowers and other endurance athletes.

Repetitive overuse injuries seen in rowing are common across other endurance sports like:

  • Running/Track & Field
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Cross Country Skiing

The multi-directional movements, cutting, and physical contact of soccer also take a significant toll on athletes, often leading to problems like ankle sprains, ACL tears, hamstring strains, and hip injuries. Having played soccer at a high level, Dr. Bourdeau understands the biomechanics behind these injuries as well as the mental determination needed to fully recover and return to the game.

The multi-directional, cutting movements of soccer put athletes at risk for injuries that are also prevalent in sports like:

  • Basketball
  • Tennis
  • Lacrosse
  • Field Hockey
  • Rugby

Additionally, the physical contact and collision elements of soccer mean Dr. Bourdeau’s skills treating impact injuries can carry over to other contact sports such as:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Wrestling
  • Rugby
  • Boxing/Martial Arts

His background rehabbing professional football players gives him expertise managing concussions, fractures, dislocations and other acute trauma injuries.

Whether you’re a runner with IT band syndrome, a basketball player recovering from an ACL tear, or a hockey player rehabbing after a collision injury, Dr. Bourdeau’s diverse experience allows him to apply proven techniques to return athletes to their sports safely and at full capacity.
